New research highlights the immune-support potential of PEKILO®Pet in dogs
Interest in functional ingredients in pet nutrition is growing, as pet owners increasingly look for diets that go beyond basic nourishment and actively support pet health. Against this backdrop, new data from a recent feeding trial suggests that PEKILO®Pet may offer a way to do just that.
PEKILO®Pet was reviewed in a controlled 60-day feeding study led by Professor Ananda Félix, involving 16 dogs. Throughout the trial, PEKILO®Pet demonstrated high digestibility and had no negative impact on stool quality. Just as importantly, palatability was shown to be excellent with dogs readily accepting the diet, and with no adverse reactions observed.
The study showed significant changes in several biomarkers linked to immune activity and oxidative balance. At a 5% inclusion level, PEKILO®Pet was associated with an increase in T regulatory lymphocytes, total antioxidant capacity and fecal IgA, while decreasing T helper lymphocytes, GST and NF-κB. Together, these findings suggest a shift toward a more balanced and controlled immune response.
In practical terms, this could mean better support for a well-balanced immune system, and support for the gut’s defense against unwanted microbes and irritants. The observed increase in antioxidant balance also points to a possible contribution to overall vitality over time. Notably, these potential benefits were achieved without any compromise in digestibility or food acceptance.
The promising results of this study represent an early step in understanding the full potential of PEKILO®Pet, adding to the mounting evidence of the importance of functional ingredients in pet nutrition.
