Enifer has completed a 4 tonne production run of PEKILO®Pet, marking the first substantial volumes available for commercial pet food product development. Delivered as a dry ingredient suitable for standard storage and handling, PEKILO®Pet can be easily integrated into existing wet and dry manufacturing processes, enabling formulation trials under practical production conditions.

“With this production run, we can move PEKILO®Pet from the R&D lab to the factory floor, and perform formulation trials under actual conditions,” says Jeroen Schweitz, Chief Commercial Officer at Enifer. “We already know that PEKILO®Pet performs well in both extrusion and retort systems. It provides to marketeers and developers a new ingredient that combines nutrition, sustainability, and enables differentiation in a demanding consumer market.”

Meanwhile, European pet food market continues to expand, with industry value in the tens of billions of euros and steady growth driven by premiumization and rising pet ownership. Within this landscape, the ingredient sector – particularly protein inputs – is forecast to grow as manufacturers pursue differentiated, high-protein formulations and diet-specific products, including exclusion diet and hypoallergenic offerings. At the same time, supply chain resilience and ingredient reliability remain central concerns, as logistical pressures and shifting raw material availability continue to influence production planning and formulation strategies across the region.
